Zen Studies are self-portraits taken in unique and quirky location in places such as California, Maine, New York, Tennessee, and Germany. Anne says about her black and white photographs that she prints in the traditional darkroom: “The series revealed itself over time and through my encounters with Zen. In each photograph I try to offer a blank character with whom the viewer can identify rather than a concrete image of myself.

The resulting images take on meaning on their own as they are a combination of my reaction to the location as well as my mood at the time. The images invite me to reflect upon the different stations on my journey --- I call them Zen Studies, but you could also call them notes on my path of individuation or enlightenment or simply my life.”

Anne Dräger has been a lifelong artist and artisan. She has a degree in Art History and Archeology and worked as a writer and translator. She has fully embraced her career as an artist since 2005 with the help of much encouragement through the practice of the Artist’s Way.
